Circles of Support
Circles of Support is a faith-based mentoring program that connects small teams of volunteers with an individual as they transition out of homelessness and into housing. The individuals served are disabled and have been living on the streets for a long time. While work is already underway helping them into housing and linking them with needed social services, many of these folks don’t have the support of a community or the life-skills needed to make it on their own.
Being part of Circles of Support is a new way to engage the homeless.
We have often volunteered to serve food, give blankets, and write checks. Those are all good things, but those things alone are short-term answers to a long-term problem. In the long run, helping the homeless find housing and then helping them stay there is not only cheaper, but it’s also the right thing to do.
Could you be a friend for a couple hours a month? At Compassion Coalition we’re constantly looking for volunteers to walk with folks as they get placed into housing. We offer training and support, and it’s a year-long commitment.
